Bird pulls down sharply on its wings.
Sparroes flap.
Canada geese and birds that travel long distances flap.
Flapping requires a lot of energy.


Soaring and Gliding
This involves very little wing movement
To soar birds rise on currents of warm air
To glide birds use falling currents of cool air.
Soaring and gliding uses less energy then Flapping


Diving
A type of flight that doesn't use lift.
Birds of prey use diving.
A pelican uses diving. It pulls its wings in close producing no lift.
Hawks and falcons dive towards prey.
Peregrine falcons dive at 180 mph.
