Viking Name and Message

 

1  Lecture.gif (2227 bytes) Ask the students why the futhark is all straight lines?

         Easier for the Vikings to make.

6 Pencil.gif (1165 bytes) Write Your Name in Viking Alphabet

Lecture.gif (2227 bytes) Hand out the large sheets of manila drawing paper.
       Show them how to tear around the edges.
       It will look like a stone.

Pencil.gif (1165 bytes) Write their message on a sheet of scrap paper.
       They can make sure it is correct and placement will be good.

Pencil.gif (1165 bytes) Write their message on the rune stone in pencil.
        Go over it with magic marker.

crayon0a.gif (328 bytes) Lightly color the paper with a brown crayon.         
        Lightly crumble it to give the appearance of an old stone.
       T he completed rune stone will be displayed in the hall.

Pencil.gif (1165 bytes) Write a message to a friend in the class using the futhark.
       Have a friend decode the message.
       Put in the Viking folder.
